The economics

Our fare split is 86 / 14.

Drivers keep 86 percent of every fare. OZ Ride keeps 14 percent. That 14 percent is the whole platform fee — no peak surcharges, no hidden cuts, no sliding scale. The legally authoritative source is the Payment Terms.

14%

Platform fee

What the 14% pays for

One flat fee. No peak surcharges on the platform cut.

Dispatch and matching

Finding the rider, routing the trip, running the 20-second accept screen, managing surge and quiet zones.

Payment processing

Card-network fees for Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay are absorbed from the platform fee — not passed to the driver.

Support and safety

In-app Help chat during Perth business hours, SOS and trip-share, fraud monitoring, and driver and rider ID verification.

Compliance and reporting

ODBS 1012130 regulatory reporting to WA Transport, GST handling, record retention, and ABN compliance.

Technology

The OZ Driver and OZ Ride apps, the servers that run them, the fare engine and the taxi meter engine.

What the fee does not do

It does not go up at peak or in surge. It does not increase on airport, holiday, or night-surcharge trips. It does not change mid-trip.

Worked example

A $50 rideshare fare

Shown on the rider receipt, the driver app, and on /ride/pricing:

Base + distance + time + surcharges$50.00
Booking Fee$1.50
Total Fare paid by rider$51.50
Platform Fee (14%)$7.00
Booking Fee retained by OZ Ride$1.50
Driver Earnings$43.00
The 14% platform fee is calculated on the base fare. The Booking Fee is separate and covers payment processing surcharges. Every trip receipt itemises every line.

Edge cases

Peak, tips, tolls, and taxi

Peak and surge

The 14% is a flat rate applied to the final fare. If a surge multiplier takes a $20 trip to $30, the driver still keeps 86% of the full $30. The platform does not take a larger slice at peak.

Tips

Tips go 100% to the driver. No platform fee is deducted from tips.

Tolls

Tolls are reimbursed 100% to the driver.

Taxi trips

Taxi fares are set by the WA Department of Transport schedule; the meter is authoritative. For Stripe Tap-to-Pay or hosted payment-link taxi trips, a Service Fee applies in addition to the metered fare. Cash trips do not attract a Service Fee. Full details in the Payment Terms.

Changes to the fee

Can the 14% change?

Yes, but only with at least 30 days' notice in writing. OZ Ride will never adjust the fee retrospectively on trips that have already been quoted or dispatched. Historic receipts settle at the rate in force when the trip was accepted.
